Five Europeans make the shortlist

19/01/2012 - Five European films have been selected to the shortlist in the category of Best Foreign Language Film, as announced by the Academy.
These are Michael R. Roskam’s Bullhead [trailer, film focus] (Belgium), Ole Christian Madsen’s Superclasico [trailer] (Denmark), Wim Wenders’s Pina [trailer] (Germany, in co-production with France and UK), Roschdy Zem’s Omar Killed Me [trailer] (officially a candidate of Morocco but French-produced), Agnieszka Holland’s In Darkness (officially a candidate of Poland, co-produced with Germany, France, Canada).
The shortlist, which includes 9 titles, also features Philippe Falardeau’s Monsieur Lazhar (Canada), Asghar Farhadi’s A Separation (Iran), Wei Te-sheng’s Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale (Taiwan), and Joseph Cedar’s Footnote (Israele).
The 5 Oscar finalists for the Best Foreign Language Film will meet on Tuesday 24, along with the other nominations. The 84th edition of the Oscars will take place at Los Angeles’ Kodak Theatre on February 26, 2012.
