Five films compete in the Panorama for The Match Factory
by Bénédicte Prot
08/02/2012 - Cologne-based international sales company The Match Factory is going to Berlin with an elegant line-up this year: five of its films are competing and one is a Panorama Special screening.
Match has always followed excellent German director Christian Petzold, and therefore his favourite actress Nina Hoss who won a Silver Bear for her role in Yella [trailer], and has now taken on his new film, Barbara [trailer, film focus] (photo), a Schramm Film Koerner & Weber production nominated for the Golden Bear.
Another great German filmmaker also features in its line-up: Hans-Christian Schmid with his Home For The Weekend [trailer], produced by 23/5 and also selected to compete.
But Match will also represent another great name of auteur cinema, but this time Hungarian, with Bence Fliegauf’s Just The Wind [trailer, film focus], also a candidate for a Golden Bear. The leader of German sales will also propose the Berlinale’s first ever Indonesian film, although co-produced with European partners, Postcards From the Zoo [trailer] by Edwin, as well as Tabu [trailer, film focus] by Portuguese director Miguel Gomes.
Out of competition, in the Panorama Special, Match will show The Wall by Julian Pölsler, in which German star Martina Gedeck, known for her role in the Oscar-winning The Lives of Others [trailer, film focus], plays a modern female Robinson Crusoé. This film is a Austrian-German co-production between the dynamic Vienna-based coop99 Filmproduktion and Starhaus Filmproduktion.
