Kiril Stankov's Three in post-production

by Stefan Dobroiu

Kiril Stankov's Three in post-production15/03/2012 - Bulgarian audiences should expect a new first feature in autumn: Kiril Stankov's Three(working title) is currently in the final stages of post-production. Shot in Sofia and on the coast of the Black Sea during eight weeks in August and September last year, the 110-minutes film will be released domestically by A+ Cinema.

The Bulgarian title is Krapetz, the name of a small and peaceful village on the Black Sea coast. It's where the two main characters (pictured), Dana (Kassiel Noa Asher) and Dju (Paraskeva Djukelova) are heading, in order to escape the arrogance of the post-communist society and rekindle their friendship, a little bit rusty after a decade in which Dana lived abroad. But Dana and Dju will soon discover that their favourite wild places have been transformed into expensive and huge hotel complexes. They find peace in little Krapetz, but crime, violence and corruption will reach the two women even in this far, deserted place.

The screenplay is written by Kiril Stankov and the film is produced by Gala Film. The producers are Galina Toneva and Kiril Kirilov, while Rali Raltchevis the DoP. The estimated budget amounts to €760,000. Last year, the film received a grant of approximately €550,000 from Bulgaria's National Film Center. It also received support from the Media Programme, CineLink and Sofia Meetings.

An unfinished version of the film will be screened at Sofia International Film Festival, which started last Friday. The festival hosts the Balkan Screenings programme (it kicks off today, March 15) which showcases more than 70 films and works-in-progress from the Balkan countries.
