Audiard, Bellocchio, and Kitano for Celluloid Dreams
by Fabien Lemercier
07/05/2012 - French international sales agency Celluloid Dreams is often a main player at the Cannes Film Festival Film Market, and this year, at the 65th edition of the major international film event (from May 16 to 27), it has no intention of breaking with tradition. Hengameh Panahi’s team will have a 2012 Palme d’Or contender in their line-up: Franco-Belgian co-production Rust & Bone [trailer, film focus] (read more) by Jacques Audiard. The film stars Marion Cotillard, and has already been pre-sold to numerous territories, with negotiations only left for Scandinavia, Asia (not including China), Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey.
In Cannes, Celluloid Dreams will launch pre-sales for Italian-French co-production Dormant Beauty (read more) by Marco Bellocchio (who competed at Cannes in 2009 with Vincere [trailer, film focus]), a film featuring a flamboyant cast of, among others, Toni Servillo, Isabelle Huppert, Alba Rohrwacher, and Maya Sansa.
Pre-sales will also start on Outrage Beyond by Japanese filmmaker Takeshi Kitano, the sequel currently in production to his previous film Outrage (that competed in Cannes in 2010).
As for its titles currently in production, Celluloid Dreams will have another Franco-Belgian film with Une place sur la terre by Fabienne Godet (read more - Benoît Poelvoorde and Ariane Labed in the cast), as well as Brazilian title Bald Mountain by Hector Dhalia. The films in post-production in its line-up will include British dark comedy The Comedian by Tom Shkolnik with Edward Hogg in the lead role, American musical Greetings From Tim Buckley by Dan Algrant, and Australian feature Satellite Boy by Catriona McKenzie.
Finally, Celluloid Dreams has fallen for Icelandic filmmaker Olaf de Fleur, and will give his criminal thriller City State its market premiere at the Film Market, as well as launch pre-sales for its sequel, Brave Men’s Blood.
