10/05/2012 - Since Tuesday, May 8, film and television director Vivian Naefe (photo), who directed the series The Wild Chicks [trailer] (adapted from the children’s novels by Cornelia Funke), has started shooting an adaptation of the 2009 German literary sensation that sold 1.1 million copies, Der Geschmack von Apfelkernen (lit. “The taste of apple seeds”) by Katharina Hagena.
The film, which is produced by Bavaria and Dr. Wilfried Ackermann Filmproduktion, was co-written by producer Uschi Reich (screenwriter for The Wild Chicks) and Rochus Hahn. When an old lady dies, her three daughters and granddaughter Iris come together, in a flurry of family memories and secrets. Marie Bäumer, Meret Becker, and Paula Beer will play the daughters, while former Shooting Star Hannah Herzsprung (4 Minutes [trailer]) will play Iris, heiress of the family home. Friedrich Mücke will also feature in the cast (Friendship! [trailer]).
The crew is currently filming between Lübeck and Kiel, in the Schleswig-Holstein region. Towards the end of June, they will move to Hamburg, then Frankfurt and Marburg.
Der Geschmack von Apfelkernen has received support from the DFFF and the FFA, as well as from the Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein regional fund, HessenInvestFilm, and FFF Bavière. Concorde will release the film in Germany next year, and Beta Cinema is in charge of its international sales.
