Francesco Rosi wins Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement

11/05/2012 - "I've never received a better or most coveted award than this one". This was Francesco Rosi's comment on the news that he would be awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the next edition of the Venice Film Festival (August 29 - September 8, 2012).

Rosi, who will turn 90 in November, will be receive the award on the occasion of the screening of the restored copy of his masterpiece The Mattei Affair, (Golden Palm in Cannes 1972), by Martin Scorsese's Film Foundation.

Francesco Rosi is considered as the icon and innovator of political Italian cinema, with films such as Hands Over the City, Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1963, Many Wars Ago, The Truce, Salvatore Giuliano, Silver Bear in Berlin, 1961.
