Rupert Everett on both sides of camera for Wilde
23/05/2012 - Rupert Everett is going to make his directorial debut with The Happy Prince in which he will play Oscar Wilde. Other top British talents include Colin Firth, Emily Watson, Tom Wilkinson and Edward Fox. The German/UK/Italian co-production is pre-sold in Cannes by Beta Cinema.
Based on Everett’s own script, The Happy Prince depicts the last days in the life of Oscar Wilde as he observes his own failure with ironic distance. Cinematographer Martin Ruhe (Control [trailer]) and production designer Christoph Kanter (The White Ribbon [trailer, film focus]) are attached to the project set to start filming next year.
Beta Cnema started pre-selling the project in Cannes. German distribution is handled by Concorde Filmverleih.
