The Repentant wins Europa Cinemas Label

26/05/2012 - Franco-Algerian co-production The Repentant (El Taaib) by Merzak Allouache (read the review and watch the interview) has won the Europa Cinemas Label for best European film in the Directors’ Fortnight section at the 65th Cannes Film Festival.
The Art Cinema Award went to No by Chilean director Pablo Larrain, the SACD Prize went to Camille Rewinds [trailer] by Noémie Lvovsky, the French film that closed the Directors’ Fortnight, and Best Short Film went to The Curse by Fyzal Boulifa (United Kingdom, Morocco).
In the Official Selection, the Cinéfondation and short film jury headed by Jean-Pierre Dardenne handed outs the awards for the Cinéfondation competition in which 15 student films ran this year. First prize went to Doraga NA by Taisia Igumentseva (VGIK, Russia), second prize went to Abigail by Matthew James Reilly (NYU, United States), and third prize went to Los Anfitriones by Miguel Angel Moulet (EICTV, Cuba).
