Goodbye to Marco Onorato, Garrone's director of photography04/06/2012 - Marco Onorato's latest success dates only a few days back, with the Jury's Grand Prix for Reality [trailer, film focus] at the Cannes Film Festival. The director of photography for Gomorra and for all of Matteo Garrone's films died yesterday morning in Rome following a short illness. He was 59 years old.

His collaboration with Matteo Garrone started in 1995 with Silhouette. It then continued with the films Terra di mezzo (1997), Ospiti (1998), The Embalmer (2002), for which he received the nomination for the David di Donatello for Best Director of Photography and First Love (2004) screened in competition at the Berlin Film Festival.

The several awards won by Marco Onorati include the European Film Award and the Foreign Press' Golden Globe Award for Best Photography for Gomorrah (2008), again with Matteo Garrone as director. His collaborations with other directors worth noting are the successful TV series L'ultimo padrino (2008), Marco Risi's Fortapasc (2009), and Valerio Mieli's Ten Winters [trailer, film focus] (2009) .

The funeral will take place on Tuesday at the De Paolis studios on via Tiburtina 11 in Rome.
