Pop Redemption: satanic rock and a thirties crisis

by Fabien Lemercier

Pop Redemption: satanic rock and a thirties crisis21/06/2012 - Last week, Martin Le Gall started filming his first feature film, Pop Redemption, a comedy about the misadventures of a satanic rock band on summer tour, and in the midst of a crisis. For his cast, the director (noted for his short Jogging Category) has brought together singer Julien Doré (pictured), Grégory Gadebois (2012 Cesar for most promising actor in Angel and Tony [trailer]), Jonathan Cohen, the comedian Yacine Belhousse (who has appeared in the television series Les Invincibles), Audrey Fleurot (The Intouchables [trailer]), Alexandre Astier (Les aventures de Philibert, capitaine puceau [trailer]), and Delia Espinat-Dief.

(The article continues below - Commercial information)

The screenplay, written by Mark Eacersall, Alexandre Astier, and Martin Le Gall, tells the story of the Dead MaKabés who, each summer since their teens, have splurged out on what they pretentiously call a "summer tour": a few concerts in festivals in obscure locations around Europe. But, for these four friends, the thirties are looming and this week-long break could very well be their last. It’s not so easy to remain loyal to your principles when you are part of a satanic rock band...

Produced by Axel Guyot and Philippe Braunstein for Les Films d’Avalon (who notably produced La BM du Seigneur [trailer]) and Leonard Glowinski for 22h22, Pop Redemption is co-produced by Gaumont. It has been pre-sold to Canal + and Ciné+, and has received support from Sofica A Plus Image, ISF Cinéma, as well as the Aquitaine and Midi Pyrénées regions. Shooting is set to last until mid-August, while the soundtrack will be by Franck Lebon and the duo Steeve Petit - Karim Attoumane (Zuul FX). Gaumont will be in charge of the film’s distribution in France.
