Michel Hazanavicius nominated president of the ARP
by Fabien Lemercier
03/07/2012 - One of the French film industry’s most important professional organisations, the Civil Society of Writers-Directors-Producers (ARP) yesterday nominated its new media-savvy president. Michel Hazanavicius, whose last feature The Artist [trailer, film focus] won five Oscars this year (including Best Film and Best Director), will take over from Jean-Paul Salomé.
During this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the ARP called on the European Commission to conduct a thorough review of its Cinema Communication project, calling it a dramatic blow to the sector, as it would greatly weaken tax incentive schemes and automatic grants for production (read the press release). It’s a dynamic debate that will no doubt reemerge at the ARP’s Dijon Film Meetings to be held from October 18 to 20 this year.
