Three love stories from around the world for Wallimage

Wallimage has just revealed the winners of its 46th session. The Walloon investment fund has chosen to support three very different productions, none of which are set in Wallonia! But, thanks to the magic of cinema, this will not stop the directors of these three love stories from filming on Walloon soil.

Stefan Liberski (photo), well-known in Belgium for being a television and radio troublemaker, is preparing Tokyo Fiancée (the international title of Amélie Nothomb's Ni d'Eve, ni d'Adam), the story of a young woman who returns to Japan where she grew up and experiences an intense initiatory love story marked by cultural differences. It's the third cinematic adaptation of a Nothomb novel (after Hygiène de l'Assassin and Fear and Trembling), but the first by a Belgian director. Pauline Etienne thus takes over from Sylvie Testud as Amélie Nothomb. It will mark Liberski's much awaited return to the big screen after his first film Bunker Paradise [+see also:

(2005). Tokyo Fiancée, produced by Versus, in co-production with Chic Films (France) and Forum Films (Canada), and with the support of the CCA, is to be shot partly in Japan, but also in the new Pôle Image studios in Liège.

Wallimage is also to support two foreign productions, starting with the latest project by Patrice Leconte, whom Wallimage already largely supported for The Suicide Shop [+see also:

. With A Promise, Leconte has set himself another challenge, as the latter is a historical love story adapted from a novel by Stefan Zweig to be shot in English with a British cast (Rebecca Hall, Alan Rickman, Richard Madden). Set in Germany at the beginning of the First World War, the film, produced in Belgium by Scope Pictures, started its seven weeks of shooting in, of course, Wallonia on October 24.

Finally, Wallimage is also to support on Catherine Castel's Belle comme la femme d'un autre (lit. "Beautiful like the wife of another"), a film to star a great cast of Audrey Fleurot, Olivier Marchal, and Zabou Breitman. Iris Film is co-producing for Belgium.
