It doesn’t have a director yet, but the topic is definitely interesting. Love at the Time of an Earthquake is the first story of its kind to be based during the terrible 6 April 2009 Aquila earthquake, which took three hundred lives. Presenting the project at the TorinoFilmLab, during the Script & Pitch day, was the screenwriter himself, Tommaso Capolicchio (photo – also author of famous Italian television series Un medico in famiglia, Solinas 2006 award winner and finalist for the same screenwriting award in 2008).

"The Aquila earthquake has up until now only been told through documentaries and political films,” he said. “I liked the idea of imagining the traumatic events through the eyes of three people whose lives were suddenly interrupted.”

Nabil is a North African immigrant in a fight with the country who will not accept him. Massimo is a lawyer caught up with real estate speculators and an unhappy marriage. Lucia is a young woman in love with the wrong man. The earthquake will completely change their lives, and as death rages around them, they will be forced to look inside themselves. Capolicchio imagines a film in the style of Iñárritu, taken on by a foreign director, “in order to get an external perspective.” Either way, the company producing it (Josei) is looking for co-producers and financial backers.

Other interesting projects among the sixteen presented during the second TFL Meeting Event day included Do you love me by Lithuanian Lina Luzyte, who asks tough questions on the nature of family ties through the tragicomic story of a father, mother and child, who more than living together, actually live one next to the other; Dead& Beautiful by Dutch David Verbeek, about a group of Chinese friends who after an overindulgent night out start growing vampire teeth; In the Name of the Mother by French Sabrina B. Karine and Alice Vial, on the true story of the many Polish nuns who were impregnated by Soviet soldiers during World War II.

Tonight, during the TFL award ceremony, we will learn whether one of these projects will be developed within the Lab itself.
