Ridley Scott’s company Scott Free London has acquired the film rights to Anne de Courcy’s best-selling book The Fishing Fleet: Husband Hunting In The Raj after a fierce bidding war with rival film and TV companies.

De Courcy’s book is a social history of husband hunting in the British Raj, and describes the exploits of young British women sent by the boatload to India to find love and marriage. De Courcy’s narrative is enhanced by real life sources including unpublished memoirs, letters and diaries.
