Written by the director with Maud Ameline, the screenplay centres on Elise who lives alone with Leo, her 10-year-old son. Her husband, Leo’s father, died a while ago. Elise works as a speaker at a big Paris museum. For a while, she has been in a relationship with Paul. They love each other each in their own way, but also confront each other. Elise rejects Paul as violently as she feels attracted to him. On their side, Paul and Leo start to get to know and appreciate each other. But when Elise discovers she is pregnant, she keeps quiet…
Produced by Julie Salvador and Christophe Jeauffroy for Christmas in July, Le Sens de l'humour has benefited from an advance on receipts from the National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNC), as well as support from the Groupama Gan Foundation and Sofica La Banque Postale Image. Pyramide is handling the film’s distribution in France and Films Distribution is in charge of international sales.
