- Produced by Mental Disorder 4 and distributed by Kino Swiat, the latest film from Katarzyna Roslaniec will be on the bill of the next Berlinale

"It's a film in which everyone is self-centered" stresses Katarzyna Roslaniec about her new opus, Baby blues, released last Friday in Polish cinemas. In the same spirit as Mall Girls (by the same directress), Suicide Room [+see also:

(by Leszek Dawid), Baby blues is a candid portrait of today's youngsters in Poland, a generation expecting their demands and pleasure to be within arm's reach.

The pleasure targetted by 17 year-old Natalie, the main character in the film, is to have a child like Britney Spears, Nicole Richie and all the stars she follows in magazines, on television and the Internet. A desire which will be met with the consent of Natalie's boy-friend. The young girl thus gives birth to a child and the couple have to play the part of parents while still being children themselves.

"Natalie is a very solitary teenager, but she thinks that having children is cool and that, generally speaking, life has become easy and you can have everything you want. She thus invents a child to which she gives birth. The film could be a sort of blog, Natalie's memoirs," explained Katarzyna Roslaniec at the film's presentation to the press.

This kind of blog (in the form of spontaneous, fragmented notes) is emphasized throughout the  film's editing : its narration is not always linear, some shots (the presence of Jens Ramborg behind the camera is worth noting) are 'sliced', occasionally cut by blackboards…

As in Mall Girls, Katarzyna Roslaniec has hired debutants including Magdalena Berus (who plays the central character), Klaudia Bulka, Nikodem Rozbicki and Michal Trzeciakowski. Several well-known actors also stand out in the cast, however, particularly Mateusz Kosciukiewicz (All That I Love [+see also:

Produced by Mental Disorder 4, Baby blues has benefited from a coproduction with Zentropa International Poland, and backing from the Polish Film Institute and Telekomunikacja Polska. Distributed in Polish cinemas by Kino Swiat, the film will be presented in the Generation 14plus section of the Berlinale 2013
