11/01/2013 - Baltasar Kormákur will produce Dagur Kari's first Icelandic-language feature since 2003: "I have been a fan of his work since he started."

Icelandic director Dagur Kári, whose three most recent films have collected six Eddas – the Icelandic national film prize – including Best Director for them all, will shoot his first Icelandic-language feature since 2003 for his fellow director Baltasar Kormákur’s BlueEyes Productions. Eurimages has chipped in €320,000 for the project, which is also supported by the Icelandic Film Centre and the Danish Film Institute.

“I have been a fan of Kári’s work since he started,” said Kormákur, who will package the production with BlueEyes partner Agnes Johansen and Danish production outfit Nimbus Film (Bo Ehrhardt, Mikkel Jersin). Shooting will start next month (February).

film profile] is competing for the €117,000 Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film at Sweden’s Göteborg International Film Festival, is currently in post-production with his US thriller 2 Guns, while preparing another US (HBO) pilot, The Missionary.

Noi The Albino, Kari’s 2003 Icelandic-language drama, was awarded at eight international festivals – at the Angers European First Film Festival, it collected five awards. Since then he has directed the Danish-language Dark Horse [+see also:

Scripted by Kári, and starring Icelandic comedian Gunnar Jónsson, Rocketman is a late coming-of-age story of a 43-year-old man still living with his mother. Routine is essential: he sleepwalks through his everyday life, until a young girl and a bubbly woman his age enter his world.
