film profile] missed the Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Feature by fewer than 20 votes - "Harvey Weinsten (US distributor), Jeremy Thomas (UK producer) and I counted the supporters we knew we had, and we only needed a few more to win," said the film's American publicity agent Tatiana Detlofson.

Still, without the trophy, the action-adventure following Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl and his five scientists on their 1947 voyage from South America to the Polynesian Islands on a wooden raft, will tomorrow (March 1) launch the 28^th Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) in Mexico, which has this year invited the Nordic countries as "guests of honour".

The Norwegian Film Institute's head of development and production, Ivar Køhn, will introduce Kon-Tiki to the 15,000 audience at the opening ceremony of one of the leading Mexican and Ibero-American showcases.
