FESTIVALS Belgium

The Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival sets a chill on the Bozar

by

- The Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival moves to the Bozar Centre for Fine Arts with the firm intention of rattling the institution, with more than 110 films from all over the world.

After having occupied the nearly empty space of Tour & Taxis for many years, The Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF) has decided to move to the Bozar, an apparently quieter location, but offering quality infrastructures which appear to have infused the organisers with new flights of fancy. Freed from certain logistical constraints, they have decided to launch new sections (New Movies, First Ventures), and shed light specifically on future Belgian talents in an out-of-competition section, with a prize also awarded by the Union of Belgian Cinematographic Press. Also on the programme this year, prestigious master classes with none other than Neil Jordan and Dario Argento, and a focus on Ireland, which will get off to a running start with the opening screening of the highly anticipated Byzantium by Neil Jordan (article), a baroque vampire movie for adults with Gemma Atterton and Johnny Lee Miller.

Finally, three European films will be in the international competition: Ghost Graduation by Javier Ruiz Caldera (Spain), The Human Race by Paul Hough (United Kingdom), and Stitches by Conor McMahon (Ireland).
