The biggest grossing hit of the season is still Madagascar 3 – Europe’s Most Wanted (€21.9 million), while the other Italian box-office winner, Lightning Strike by Neri Parenti, was pushed down to tenth position with €10 million.
The weekend’s ranking was dominated by the latest Disney release, Oz: The Great and Powerful (in first position with €2,893,385), followed by other newcomer Silver Linings starring Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar for her role. Overall intake is on the up again: +19% compared to the previous weekend and over €10 million made (€10,342,336), representing a 7.24% increase compared to the same period last year. The recovery already started in February according to Cinetel data, which oversees 90% of the Italian market. Last month, 7,615,000 million tickets were sold, a 4.55% increase compared to February 2012. The strong performance can be attributed to Il principe abusivo, which represented 22% of overall sales and contributed to a lift in the Italian share of the market (32%) compared to February 2012 (30%).
