Films presented for the 2013-14 season by Rai Cinema total 32, ranging from Italian-style comedies and thrillers to action movies. International and Italian names include Scorsese, Polanski and Ron Howard, Moretti, Amelio, Virzì, Ozpetek and Luchetti.

The general manager of Rai Cinema Paolo Del Brocco talked about the production commitment public television in Italy had: 72 films, among which 33 are debut and second films for a total of €80 million invested in co-productions. Of the 35 feature films distributed by 01 in the last season, 25 are Italian. During this period, the company made €100 million in revenue (out of €16 million tickets sold), representing 16% of the market with films that often topped box office charts. “Rai Cinema doesn’t just look at quantity, but also, and especially, at quality: beyond the revenue, what counts is reaching the target we have set ourselves,” Del Brocco underlined.

Among the most interesting Italian titles set to be distributed by 01 in the next few months are L'Intrepido by Gianni Amelio with Antonio Albanese and Margherita by Nanni Moretti. Others include Allacciate le cinture by Ferzan Ozpetek, La regina delle nevi by Carlo Mazzacurati with Valerio Mastandrea, Il capitale umano by Paolo Virzì, Anni felici by Daniele Luchetti with Kim Rossi Stuart and Micaela Ramazzotti. Among the most promising comedies are Aspirante vedovo by Massimo Venier, starring Fabio De Luigi and Luciana Littizzetto. La mafia uccide solo d'estate, a tragicomic fable on the Cosa Nostra by actor and directing newcomer Pierfrancesco Diliberto, should pique interests. The neo-director known as Pif will star alongside Cristiana Capotondi.
