(photo) was screened in the Orizzonti competition at the Venice International Film Festival, lead actresses Lily Moodysson, Mira Barkhammar, Liv LeMoyne and Mira Grosin received a standing ovation – and their film resulted in strong reviews in the trades after its Special Presentation during the Toronto International Film Festival.

“Obviously we are happy that the international market place is embracing this unique, warm and true-hearted film from Moodysson,” said ceo Rikke Ennnis, of Danish international sales agency TrustNordisk, who went on to license it to Australia (NewVision Films), Italy (Bim Distribuzione) and Taiwan (Maison Motion) after the UK, Benelux, Switzerland, Former Yugoslavia and Lithuania.

Following three young outsiders in 1980’s Stockholm - Bobo, Klara and Hedvig - who despite their differences find unity in music and form a punk band without having any instruments and even though everybody says that punk is dead, We Are the Best! will next screen at the Reykjavik International Film Festival (September 26-October 6), where Moodysson will be a guest of honour. 

Produced by Lars Jönsson for Sweden’s Memfis Film, with Swedish regional film centre Film i Väst and Denmark’s Zentropa Entertainments, Moodysson’s first Swedish film after his English-language Mammoth [+see also:

(2009) will be domestically released on October 11 by Svensk Filmindustri.

Also in Toronto, Denmark’s first superhero, Antboy – Danish director Ask Hasselbalch’s adaption of Kenneth Bøgh Andersen’s books – found its way to the American market when acquired by US distributor Viva Pictures. SF Film has set the Danish launch for October 3.
