Kilkenny reads Subtitle again

The second edition of the Subtitle European Film Festival got underway in Kilkenny on Monday with the Irish premiere of Yuri Bykov’s The Major and will close on December 1 with another Irish premiere of another Russian film – Anton Megerdichev’s Metro. The films are part of the festival’s Resurgent Russia focus, a look at the country’s contemporary cinema scene. In all, the festival will be screening 36 films from Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, France, Austria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Bosnia.

Subtitle is an actor led festival and this year guests include Agnieszka Grochowska, Allan Hyde, Morten Suurballe, Evgenia Brik, Masha Andreeva, Yuri Kolokolnikov, Jessica Grobowsky, Clara Antonio de la Torre, Martijn Lakemeier, Marwen Kenzari, Hannah Hoekstra, Marija Pikic, Peter Franzén, Pilou Asbæk, Laura Birn, Jasper Pääkkönen, Jakub Gierszal, Aksel Hennie, Danila Kozlovsky and Nikolaj Lie Kaas.

The festival’s Crimewatch season includes Aku Louhimies8-Ball [+see also:

. Audiences will also get a chance to see the highlights from the 2012 Festival with the Re:View season bringing back some of the most popular films for a second look. Returning films include Agnieszka Holland’s In Darkness [+see also:
