Paris brings “l’Europe autour de l’Europe” into the limelight

Focusing on films from Greater Europe (47 countries), works by great masters of emerging trends, the 9th edition of the L’Europe autour de l’Europe Festival opened last night in Paris in the presence of Irish filmmaker Jim Sheridan. Until 13 April, 60 full-length feature films will be screened in 15 cinemas in the French capital. Nine films are in competition and will be decided on by a jury chaired by Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi, and including, among others, Italian singer and filmmaker Franco Battiato.

Numerous tributes are also expected, in particular to Norwegian director Anja Breien, to Hungarian filmmaker István Szabó and to Ukrainian Kira Mouratova, all of whom will be attending in Paris, as well as to Miklós Jancsó and Nico Papatakis, who will not be present. Among the guests also worth mentioning are Dutch Jos Stelling and Norwegian documentary filmmaker Knut Erik Jensen.
