Having kicked off with four days in Budapest in February, followed by three days in Jerusalem at the end of March and four more in Sweden (Seskarö and Boden) last week, the shoot for Fever at Dawn by Péter Gárdos will begin again on 27 May for 29 days in the Hungarian capital before winding up in mid-July with two days on the Swedish island of Gotland. Co-produced by Sweden and Israel, the tenth feature film by the Hungarian director of The Last Blues (2002), The Porcelain Doll (2005) and Prank (2009) stars Milan Schruff (The Adventurers) and Emöke Piti (who is making her big-screen debut), as well as famous Israeli actress Gila Almagor (Munich), Andrea Petrik, Eszter Földes, Lehel Kovács, Gábor Máté, József Gyabronka and Péter Scherer.

Written by the director together with Sweden’s Marianne Ahrne, the screenplay recounts a love story that begins in the most unusual of circumstances between two survivors of the hell that was the Holocaust. Having suffered immensely during their ordeal, these two survivors share a love that overcomes every obstacle on a road that will also lead them to cross paths with death itself. The plot is set in the Swedish rehabilitation camps between the autumn and winter of 1945.

Produced by Dénes Szekeres (a loyal partner of the director’s) for Tivoli Film-Plusz, Fever at Dawn is being co-produced by Christer Nilson for Göta Film (Sweden) and by Israeli company Miki Zachar Productions, with backing from the Hungarian National Film Fund, the Jerusalem Film Fund, the Swedish Film Institute, Filmpool Nord and the MEDIA Programme. Distribution in Hungarian cinemas will be handled by InterCom, and international sales will be headed by the Hungarian National Film Fund.
