On 20 April 2014, the market share for Spanish production reached 27%, no less than 11.4% more than the same period the previous year, according to data provided by Rentrak Spain. This result is mainly due to the contribution of Emilio Martínez-Lázaro's comedy produced by La Zona FilmsSnow FilmsKowalski Films and Telecinco Cinema. Speaking about this, Ramón Colom, president of producer federation FAPAE, affirmed: “Like every year and in all cinema moments, there are films that act as drivers, contributing to raising a huge amount of revenue, and there are some major releases still to come for the rest of 2014.”

FAPAE also indicated that this current revenue for Spanish cinema is an increase of 94.2% compared to the same period the previous year and represents a 128% increase in viewers. In total, the Spanish box office went up by 11.8% when compared to the same period in 2013 and spectators went up by 29.3%, interrupting the decline which had been the hallmark of previous years.

Reasons to be optimistic are hardly lacking, especially as there are more definite successes set to be released this year, including the fifth instalment in the Torrente saga, REC 4: Apocalypse [+see also:

and Mortadelo y Filemón contra Jimmy el Cachondo (article). FAPAE hopes that the Spanish cinema share will be the highest in history.
