film profile], which was screened in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes International Film Festival and went on to win the Jury Prize, will be the second Scandinavian entry to be launched in the US.
After the festival, it was announced that US independent distributor Magnolia Pictures had picked up Östlund’s third selection on the Côte d’Azur. At Cannes, Denmark’s TrustNordisk sold Danish director Kristian Levring’s western and Midnight Screening, The Salvation [+see also:

Marketed at Cannes by Paris-based The Coproduction Office, Swedish Plattform production Turist has also been purchased by Lumière (for Benelux), Look Now! (Switzerland), Øst for Paradis (Denmark), Arthaus (Norway) and Black Hand/Must Käsi (the Baltics). It will be released domestically by TriArt Film.
“Scandinavian filmmakers seem to get more out of less,” said director of acquisitions Peter van Steemburg, of Magnolia Pictures, at last year’s New Nordic Films market during the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund.
There had been no need for him to sign for the festival’s opening film, Norwegian director Erik Skjoldbjærg’s diving thriller Pioneer [+see also:
