- Doris Longoni heads the new Southern Switzerland Film Commission
At the Locarno Film Festival Doris Longoni was introduced as Director of the new Southern Switzerland Film Commission. The Swiss-born Marketing Director and former film festival coordinator who speaks several languages fluently will start on 1 September at the Film Commission. On 1 November, Cristiana Giaccardi, former festival programmer and publicist for the international press, is going to join her as Project Manager to ensure that the Film Commission operates effectively.
The wide variety of locations that Ticino has to offer was shown to various industry representatives at the Locarno Film Festival where the Southern Switzerland Film Commission organized several helicopter rides. Among the productions that have been shot in the region in recent years is the famous opening jump scene from the Verzasca Damthe in the James Bond film 007 – Golden Eye.
Kicking off with a budget of CHF 1,870,000, which was approved by the Parliament in Ticino last year, the non-profit organization will promote it’s territory for various types of audio-visual productions and attract producers who intend to work in Ticino. The Southern Switzerland Film Commission is going to support productions with information concerning the geography, climate and transport as well as all political, legal and economic aspects of the Ticino Canton. The service includes assistance in location scouting, pre-production and production. A database will provide producers with essential information on equipment rental, casting, hotels, restaurants and catering services that are available in the territory.
In addition plans are underway to establish a film fund that would provide direct financial support to producers who decide to make their movies in Ticino.
