19/08/2014 - A sequel to the most popular Romanian film of 2014 may start production before the end of the year

film profile], is preparing a sequel that may start production before the end of the year. The screenplay is already written and the project is awaiting the results of a new grant contest organised by the Romanian National Film Center, which may support the sequel. It will be produced by Zazu Film, currently in search of co-producing companies.

All of the main actors from the first film are expected to return. The story, which is currently shrouded in mystery, will follow Roxana (Olimpia Melinte), Yasmine (Crina Semciuc), Ana (Flavia Hojda) and their boyfriends (Vlad Logigan, Levent Sali, Alexandru Călin) during a wild night spent in the clubs of Bucharest. ”It’s going to be crazy,” Cristina Iacob told Cineuropa, adding that the film's exterior shots ”will show a beautiful Bucharest, with special places that are well known by young people”. There are plans to release the film domestically in 2015. 

Released in May this year, #Selfie, a teenage comedy about three high-school graduates who go to the seaside for a weekend of adventures before the most important exam of their lives, has become the most successful Romanian release of 2014, with almost 90,000 admissions. It was a hit with young cinema-goers, a group usually ignored by the so-called New Wave of Romanian cinema.

Until #Selfie 2 becomes one of the very few sequels in Romanian cinema, Cristina Iacob plans to release another feature, A Gift for You [+see also:

film profile] (working title), a love story with Dragoş Bucur, Mimi Brănescu and Mirela Oprişor. The premiere is expected at the end of the year.
