Over its almost three-hour running time, this Austrian-German co-production (which combines the efforts of Austrian outfit Wega and those of German firms Bavaria Filmverleih- & Produktion, WS Filmproduktion Dr. Wolfgang Stürzl, KIDDINX Filmproduction and Senator Film Produktion) recounts the unusual love triangle that was created in the Age of Enlightenment between Charlotte von Lengefeld (Henriette Confurius), her sister Caroline (Hannah Herzsprung) and German writer Friedrich Schiller (Florian Stetter).

The well-known producer Uschi Reich said she was delighted about this “great luck”, which represents a “confirmation of her work”.

The film was released in Germany on 31 July and is distributed by Senator.

The five finalists for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film will be announced on 15 January. The 67th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on 22 February.
