The international sales team of the French Pathé group will be arriving at the 39th Toronto International Film Festival (4-14 September 2014) with a very solid line-up that includes three films that will be screened during the Canadian event.

by Matthew Warchus, which closed the latest Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes. Lastly, the festival will feature a Gala screening of Escobar: Paradise Lost by Andrea di Stefano (see news – scheduled for release in France on 5 November), starring Benicio Del Toro as the well-known Colombian drug trafficker, in addition to Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games).

At Toronto, Pathé will officially gets sales under way for Selma by Ava Duvernay, for which a promo reel will be shown to buyers. The film, which is currently in post-production and stars David Oyelowo, Tom Wilkinson and Oprah Winfrey, recounts Martin Luther King’s struggle for civil rights – and specifically the march from Selma to Montgomery, which persuaded President Johnson to introduce the Voting Rights Act in 1965. Pathé will handle distribution in the UK on 6 February next year, with Paramount covering the USA on 25 December. The production is headed by Christian Colson for British outfit Cloud Eight Films, and Brad Pitt is among the various American co-producers with his outfit Plan B.

At Toronto, Murie Sauzay’s team will also be targeting presales for the English-language film Youth by Italy’s Paolo Sorrentino (starring Michael Caine, Rachel Weisz, Harvey Keitel, Paul Dano and Jane Fonda – see the article), which is now in post-production and has already been purchased for France, the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, the Benelux, Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, the countries of the former Yugoslavia, Greece, Switzerland, Turkey, the CIS, Cyprus, New Zealand and Australia.

Also featuring among the films in post-production on its line-up are British drama Suffragette [+see also:

by Sarah Gavron (starring Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham-Carter, Brendan Gleeson and Meryl Streep, among others – read the news – already pre-sold to over 20 territories – UK release scheduled for September 2015); the 3D adventure comedy Evolution Man - Monkey Business by Jamel Debbouze (adapted from the novel of the same name by Roy Lewis – French release in April 2015 – with a promo reel to be screened at Toronto); the thriller Nobody From Nowhere by Matthieu Delaporte, starring Mathieu Kassovitz and Marie-Josée Croze – French release on 19 November; and Invisible Boy by Italian filmmaker Gabriele Salvatores (see the article).
