Since January 2014 the Jerusalem International Film Lab embarked upon a worldwide hunt for writer-directors whose shorts or first full-length film had generated international attention, and who were currently in the process of developing a new full-length feature. The team of scouts led by Matthieu Darras and Isabelle Fauvel, included prominent film professionals and top film school directors from across the globe that identified over 100 outstanding candidates for the Lab. A parallel effort took place in Israel, spearheaded by film school directors, producers and film fund directors.
The following 12 writer-directors passed the scrupulous criteria to be accepted by the Jerusalem Film Lab: Benjamin Naishtat (Argentina), Ashim Ahluwalia (India), Idan Hubel (Israel), Paul Negoescu (Romania), Paolo Marinou Blanco (Portugal), Adriano Valerio (Italy), Oren Adaf (Israel), Mihal Barezis and Oded Ben Nun (Israel), Ferit Karahan (Turkey/Kurdistan), Itamar Alcalay (Israel), Shalom Hager (Israel), Keren Ben Refael (Israel).
The participants will take part in the project development scheme, working on their projects throughout 2 residential workshops under the guidance of 3 international script editors: Clare Downs (UK), Jacques Akchoti (France) and Israeli director and writer Avi Nesher (Israel).
The conclusive moment of the Lab will be a public pitching event at the Lab’s closing events, held during the Jerusalem Film Festival – on July 2015. On this occasion, an international jury will grant The Beracha Awards, totaling $80,000.
The registration for the Lab’s 5 edition (2016) will open on January 2015.
