Corneliu Porumboiu starts shooting The Treasure
The Treasure started shooting on 15 October

Corneliu Porumboiu started shooting his latest project, The Treasure, on 15 October. The film is produced by Porumboiu’s own company, 42 Km Film, and co-produced by Les Films du Worso and Rouge International. Marcela Ursu is the producer. 

Porumboiu wrote the screenplay, which follows two men as they face a series of misadventures in their quest to find a treasure. Shooting will last for one month and will take place in Bucharest and the county of Teleorman.

The main characters are played by Toma Cuzin (The Japanese Dog [+see also:

) and two non-professional actors, Adrian Purcărescu and Corneliu Cozmei, selected by Porumboiu after a three-month casting process. The DoP is Tudor Mircea, who also shot Porumboiu’s When Evening Falls on Bucharest or Metabolism [+see also:

In April, the project received a grant of approximately €350,000 from the Romanian National Film Center. The Treasure is also backed by ARTE France Cinéma and HBO.

The film will be released domestically in 2015, after a very possible world premiere at Cannes. It is handled internationally by Wild Bunch.
