Written by Raphaël Nadjari together with Vincent Poymiro (who has already worked with the filmmaker before, on Tehilim), the story revolves around 40-year-old Hannah, who was born in France but now lives in Montreal. She is a passionate and determined woman who works as a music teacher together with her pianist husband Daniel, with whom she leads a choir that sings Jewish liturgical songs. But the problems start to mount up (one of which is the announcement that one of the public subsidies they receive every year is to be cut) and threaten to weaken Hannah’s levels of commitment. One day, a young, gifted and fragile woman, Abigail, comes knocking on the choir’s door.

Produced by Alexis Dantec and Fred Bellaïche for The French Connection, Mobile étoile is executive-coproduced by Anne-Marie Gélinas for Quebec-based outfit EMA Films, while Julie Paratian is associate co-producer for French firm Sister Productions. Having been pre-purchased by TV5 Monde, the feature is also benefitting from support by the CNC’s advance on receipts, the Franco-Canadian co-production aid programme, and backing from the Procirep, the Aquitaine region, the SODEC, Téléfilm Canada, Cinémage 9, Sofitvciné 2 and BMEDIA. After having kicked off in Montreal, filming will be finished off in Bordeaux. Distribution in France and international sales will be handled by MK2.
