, Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov are currently in “crazy pre-production” with their new project, Glory (formerly known as The Pledge). A drama following a railroad worker who finds a substantial amount of money, the film is produced by Abraxas Film (Bulgaria) and Graal Films (Greece). The budget amounts to €260,000. The Bulgarian National Film Center is supporting the production with a €190,000 grant.

Stefan Denolyubov, who played the moneylender in The Lesson, is Tsanko Petrov, a railroad worker who finds millions of leva on the train tracks. He decides to turn the entire amount over to the police, and the state rewards him with a new wristwatch, but soon the new watch stops working.

Meanwhile, Julia Staikova (Margita Gosheva, the star of The Lesson), head of the PR department of the Ministry of Transport, loses Petrov’s old watch. “And here starts his desperate struggle to get his old watch back, as well as his dignity,” Valchanov told Cineuropa.

Grozeva and Valchanov are now adding the finishing touches to the screenplay. Shooting will start in July, in Sofia and in various villages around the Bulgarian capital, and is expected to wrap in August. Krum Rodriguez (The Lesson, Viktoria [+see also:

Glory is the second part of the directing duo’s so-called “newspaper clippings trilogy”, as the stories are inspired by articles published in the Bulgarian press. “We are trying to ignore the sensational and to create a social parable; this is the important thing,” said Valchanov about the film’s approach.

Glory is expected to be released domestically in 2016.
