The Sarajevo Film Festival has announced that this year it will pay tribute to Brillante Mendoza, the most prominent Filipino filmmaker.

With the director in attendance, the festival will screen ten of his 16 films, starting with his feature debut, Masahista, which won the Golden Leopard for Best Video Art at Locarno in 2005. The selection also includes Summer Heat and Manoro (both 2006), Foster Child (Cannes Un Certain Regard 2007), Slingshot (Berlinale Forum 2007), Serbis (Cannes Competition 2008), and the film he became most widely known with - Kinatay [+see also:

, which earned him the Best Director Award at Cannes.

The Tribute to Brillante Mendoza will, of course, also feature Thy Womb (Venice Competition 2012) and Captive [+see also:

(Berlinale Competition 2012), and the programme will wrap with this year's Ecumenical Jury Prize - Special Mention winner in Cannes' Un Certain Regard, Taklub.

In previous years, Sarajevo has paid tribute to Steve Buscemi, Mike Leigh, Stephen Frears, Peter Mullan, Dušan Makavejev, Gaspar Noe, Alexander Payne, Abel Ferrara, Béla Tarr, Ulrich Seidl, Todd Haynes, Jia Zhang-ke, Bruno Dumont, Lucrecia Martel, Todd Solondz, Cristi Puiu and Michael Winterbottom
