Czech critics name the trio of 2015's best films for their annual awards
The Snake Brothers by Jan Prušinovský

Before the Czech Film and Television Academy announces its verdict at the annual Czech Lion awards gala, this year handing out prizes to television projects in three categories for the first time ever, domestic film critics will have their say at an event of their own on 23 January, at the sixth edition of the Czech Film Critics' Awards. The year 2015 can be judged as a successful one for Czech cinema in terms of both co-productions and domestic productions, the latter being reflected to a certain extent by the Czech Film Critics' Awards shortlist.

. In the latter, Zelenka took a story about French Prime Minister Édouard Daladier's pet parrot, which, after several decades, reveals its secrets and comes out with unflattering comments about the Czechs, which it overheard during the Munich crisis. Zelenka then incorporated this tale into a complex and delicately structured cinematic work that criss-crosses between a lesson on the nation's complex history, an absurd comedy and a satire on the making of a film. Lost in Munich is nominated in three main categories.

A new category has also been opened up in the Critics' Awards, honouring Best Audiovisual Work. The three films present in the inaugural edition of this category are Little from the Fish Shop [+see also:

As usual, the critics will be handing out an Award for Discovery of the Year, which will see Štěpán Altrichter competing as director and co-writer of Schmitke, alongside young filmmaker Andy Fehu, who cut his teeth on amateur and semi-professional projects, nominated for his feature debut, the lo-fi horror The Greedy Tiffany [+see also:
