Famous Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhang-Ke has accepted the role of godfather for the eighth edition of the Fabrique des cinémas du monde, which will take place as part of the larger framework of the 69th Cannes Film Festival (11-22 May 2016). Organised in close connection with the festival and the Film Market by the Institut Français with France Médias Monde and the International Organisation of La Francophonie, the professional programme aims at promoting the growth of young creation from southern and emerging countries on the international market.

Ten directors currently developing their first or second feature films have therefore been invited to the event, accompanied by their producers. Their schedule includes workshops (last year, these were dedicated to producing your first film, pitching, sound, colour grading and post-production), work sessions with this year’s godfather (who will also be holding a master class), group meetings with key players in the film industry (fund, festival and television channel representatives and directors), business lunches (international sales, co-production markets and international funds) and individual meetings with producers and vendors from around the world. Since 2012, between 60% and 70% of the selected projects have made co-production deals in the six months following Cannes.

Since its inception, the Fabrique des cinémas du monde has supported a total of 72 projects, with some of the directors who have previously participated going on to achieve recognition at some big festivals, such as Hong Diep Nguyen (Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere [+see also:
