The Lolas in Berlin

Tonight is the biggest night of German cinema, the night when their equivalent of the Oscars, the Lolas will be presented in Berlin’s Tempodrom. For the moment the only certainty is Stephen Daldry’s best foreign film victory for The Hours.
The novelties of the 2003 Lolas include the return of the best screenplay award, relegated until now to Berlinale, that will also go to film projects as well as completed titles.
The run-up to the Lolas saw Germany’s leading producers of animated films ask culture minister, Christina Weiss to create a Lola for their category. At present, cartoons compete alongside children’s films.
