Questioning the lines between fiction and reality, Bikini Moon tells the story of a documentary filmmaker and his girlfriend who take a charismatic but troubled woman into their home, turning their lives upside down. The film explores the issues of everyday surveillance, exhibitionism and a search for intimacy.

“I’ve been living in New York City since 1985 but have not shot here in a long time, so this was a homecoming of sorts for me. Even though I shot my feature films in Europe, I felt like a New York director on loan,” Manchevski told Cineuropa. “Working in New York is a dream – there are tons of talented people, ready to pounce. The rhythm of production is energising, and the city itself is perhaps the best integrated backdrop and foreground you can think of.”

The film stars Condola Rashad (Money Monster, Complete Unknown, the TV series Billions) in the leading role, as well as Will Janowitz (Little Boxes, HBO’s The Night Of), Sarah Goldberg (Gambit, The Dark Knight Rises [+see also:

) and newcomer Sathya Sridharan.

Manchevski also wrote the script, based on his own story, together with US writer WP Rosenthal. Bikini Moon is a co-production by Germany's Czar Film, New York-based Milkman Productions and Canadian outfit YN Films.
