In recognition of his unique contribution to the world of film, with a rich and extensive career both in front of the camera and behind the scenes as a producer, Ireland's Pierce Brosnan will be presented with the honorary European Achievement in World Cinema Award by the European Film Academy at this year’s European Film Awards ceremony on 10 December in Wroclaw, the Polish European Capital of Culture 2016.

Action, comedy and romance - Brosnan has worked with numerous genres, moving, upsetting and inspiring the audience with his singing of ABBA songs as one of the fathers in Mamma Mia! [+see also:

From 1995 to 2002, he played the world's most famous secret agent, James Bond, in Golden Eye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997 - for which he received an EFA nomination), The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002).

In addition to his licence to kill and his work in front of the camera, Pierce Brosnan has long had a passion for the art of filmmaking. He launched his own production company and has produced 11 films to date, including The Nephew (1998), The Match (1999), Laws of Attraction (2004) and I.T. (2016), among others. , a Martin Campbell film, co-starring Jackie Chan. He is currently filming The Only Living Boy In New York alongside Jeff Bridges for director Marc Webb and will next star in Across The River and into the Trees, based on Ernest Hemingway's classic novel of the same name and directed by Martin Campbell.

Brosnan, who was appointed Unicef Ambassador for Ireland in December 2001 and was honoured with the OBE (Order of the British Empire) in recognition of his contribution to the British film industry, will be an honorary guest at the 29th European Film Awards ceremony for his impressive dedication to cinema.
