The 22nd edition of the Geneva International Film Festival Tous Ecrans has drawn to a close with a screening of Yourself and Yours by Korean director Hong Sang-soo, a demanding, minimalistic film that brings to mind the absurd and transgressive world of Buñuel. During the awards ceremony, Thai artist and director Apichatpong Weerasethakul was crowned with the prestigious Film&Beyond accolade.

Sitting atop the winners’ list at this 22nd edition was Life and a Day by Iranian director Saeed Roostae, a movie that pleased the jury thanks to its perfect balance of sensitivity and aestheticism. Meanwhile, Park [+see also:

by Greek director Sofia Exarchou and Alipato - The Very Brief Life of an Ember by “bad boy” of Filipino cinema Khavn de la Cruz split two Special Mentions from the jury. The Reflet d’Or for Best TV Series was won by US directors Richard Price and Steven Zaillian with their The Night Of, while a Special Mention went to Golden Life by Gábor Krigler.

The first-ever Reflet d’Or for a virtual-reality work went to Joost Jordens and Mike von Rotz for their Transition, and a Special Mention was bestowed upon Drawing Room by Jan Rothuizen, Sara Kolster, Juul Spree and Harm van de Ven, split with Oscar Raby’s Easter Rising: Voice of a Rebel. The new competitive section dedicated to music videos awarded its Reflet d’Or to Panda (Desiigner) by Paul Geusebroek, with a Special Mention singling out Submarine (The Shoes ft. Blaine Harris) by Karim Huu Do. Lastly, a further prize was handed to the web series La Bateau de l’Enfer by Julian Nodolwsky and Joachim Barbier.

The 22nd edition of the gathering more than met expectations, with over 30,000 festivalgoers and a plethora of international guests in attendance.
