The Romanian National Film Center gives out more than €4.4 million in production support

Yesterday evening, the Romanian National Film Center announced the results of its second production support competition of 2016. A total amount of more than €4.4 million is being shared by fiction, documentary and animated projects, with Cristian Mungiu, Cristi Puiu and Corneliu Porumboiu notable by their absence on the list of winning directors.

Eleven fiction features share €2,400,000. These are: I Hate Berlin by Valentin Hotea (HiFilm Productions), Fish Bone by Dragomir Sholev (HiFilm Productions), The Gendarme by Dan Chişu (Domestic Film), Eden by Agnes Kocsis (Libra Film Productions), Father Moves Mountains by Daniel Sandu (Mobra Films), Luca by Horaţiu Mălăele (Fundaţia Teatru Contemporan), Craziness by Sinişa Dragin (Mrakonia Film), First Client by Răzvan Săvescu (Scharf Advertising), Redemption by Toma Enache (Vision PM), Night by Gabriel Achim (Mandragora) and 1983 by Andrei Cohn (Mandragora).

Five first features share just over €1 million. These are: Toward North by Dan Mihai Mincan (De Film Productions), Spiral by Cecilia Felmeri (Hai-Hui Entertainment), Tie by Marius Olteanu (Parada Film), Windseeker by Marius Sofronea (Libra Film Productions) and Otto the Barbarian by Ruxandra Ghiţescu (Alien Film).

Four documentary features share €444,000. These are: Temporary by Alexander Nanău (Alexander Nanau Productions), The Dead Country by Radu Jude (HiFilm Productions), Occasional Spies by Oana Giurgiu (Libra Film Productions) and The Dictatorship Nostalgia by Marius Barna (Paradox Film).

Finally, three animations share a little over €300,000, while ten short films share approximately €222,000. Eleven fiction and documentary projects received development support amounting to €40,000.
