The Plastic Lion project is so successful that it has become the subject of a university degree. Under the patronage of Regione Veneto and the City of Venice, the Plastic Lion Cultural Association was the chosen subject of a thesis entitled "The Revenge of the Short. The Fortune of short films and the genesis of a production experience : the Plastic Lion Project". It was, presented by a student from Mestre.
First held in 2002 at the 59th International Venice Film Festival, this sidebar award includes the following categories : the "Audience Lion" (won by Patrice Leconte for L’homme du train [+see also:

]
and by actors Julianne Moore and Jean Rochefort), the "Screenplay Game", "Open Auditions" and a competition for students called "VideoFlashEnvironment" that was won last year by three students at the Academy of Fine Arts.
The Screenplay Game proved just as popular with writers eager to work together on ensemble projects and was won by two writers whose screenplays were made into short films, produced by the Plastic Lion Association together with industry operators.
Given the success of the first edition, we will likely hear the Plastic Lion roaring at this year’s 60th Mostra meanwhile, the association is planning to open experimental workshops in Venice, Bologna and Turin.
