 by Copenhagen-based debutant Icelandic director Hlynur Pálmason has continued its hot streak by winning another major Danish film award. After dominating the 34th Robert Awards (see the news) and receiving the Dreyer Award in recognition of outstanding artistic endeavours, the Danish-Icelandic co-production was also the winner of Best Film at the 71st Bodil Awards of the Danish Film Critics Association.

The awards ceremony, which celebrated the biggest achievements in Danish cinema, was held on 17 March at the People’s Theatre in Nørregade, and it was hosted by Mille LehfeldtLaus Høybye and Jakob Fauerby, of the satirical trio PLATT-FORM. For Winter Brothers, the jury stated: “Rarely has a debut film taken our breath away, as Winter Brothers did last year. Hlynur Pálmason has made a film that insists on exploring the potential of the film industry as an art form, which puts the audience’s brains, eyes and ears on glorious overtime.” Pálmason’s film also received a second Bodil for Best Cinematography, for Maria von Hausswolff, who also was the winner last year with Parents [+see also:

The rest of Bodil Awards were fairly evenly split, so there was no clearly dominant winner on the night. In the actors’ categories, the Bodils were divided among four different films. Amanda Collin received the Best Leading Actress Bodil for her performance in the relationship drama A Horrible Woman [+see also:

 by Christian Tafdrup, which suitably impressed the jury, and seasoned thesp Dejan Čukić, who “has proven that hard work pays”, was the Best Leading Actor for All In [+see also:

 by Christian Dyekjær. As for supporting actors, Julie Christiansen received her first Bodil after her first nomination, for Mehdi Avaz’s melodrama While We Live [+see also:

, and renowned actor Søren Malling received the Best Supporting Actor Bodil for portraying boxing promoter Mogens Palle in the biopic on legendary Danish boxer Jørgen Hansen (who passed away on Thursday), Pound for Pound [+see also:

Before the ceremony, the leader in terms of the number of nominations was Darkland [+see also:

, with five nods, but the film directed by Fenar Ahmad and co-penned by the director and Adam August received only the Bodil for Best Original Screenplay – and besides its impressive performance in terms of cinema admissions, it also snatched the Streaming Prize.  won Best Documentary, while acclaimed director and screenwriter Lone Scherfig was the recipient of this year’s Honorary Bodil.
