The entire trio will be holding the reins of this film, set during the Spanish Civil War and its aftermath, which will boast two of the most sought-after actors in Spanish cinema in the lead roles: Antonio de la Torre (nominated for the most recent Goya Award for Abracadabra [+see also:

The movie will be an allegory about the fear of showing one’s true self, a fictional story based on the various real-life cases of the so-called “moles”, people who ensconced themselves in secret hideouts to avoid political attacks during the Civil War and the Franco regime. The screenplay, penned by Goenaga together with Luiso Berdejo (Violet), will focus on one such person who shuts himself away in his house in 1936 and will refuse to come out again for 30 years. The topic of Spanish moles was previously tackled by José Luis Cuerda in the 2008 film The Blind Sunflowers, starring Maribel Verdú, Javier Cámara and Raúl Arévalo, as well as in 30 años de oscuridad (2012), based on the renowned “mole of Mijas”, in which Manuel H Martín combined animation and documentary and collaborated with actors Juan Diego and Ana Fernández.

La trinchera infinita is being produced by IrusoinMoriarti Produkzioak, La Trinchera Film AIE and La Claqueta, with the involvement of the ICAA (which granted it support of almost €1.2 million back in July 2017), the Regional Government of Andalucía (which backed it to the tune of just over €200,000), the Basque Government and ETBFilm Factory will act as its international sales agent.
