Belgians on the Lido

Belgium will be very well represented at the 60th Mostra that opens today. In collaboration with the Wallonie Bruxelles Image (WBI), the French-speaking Belgian Community’s national film promotion agency, three Belgian co-productions were selected for screening in the various sections and a further eight will be presented at the Venice Market.
Ne dites pas à ma mère, a documentary by Françoise Levie, produced by Memento Production, will screen on 5 and 6 September in New Territories.
There are two Belgian co-productions in Competition: Le Soleil Assassiné by AbdelKarim Bahloul and starring Charles Berling, scheduled for 28 and 29 August and produced by France’s Martine and Antoine de Clermont Tonnerre for Mact Productions and Belgium’s Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne and their Les Films du Fleuve. It will compete against The Five Obstructions by Joergen Leth and Lars von Trier, scheduled for screening on 29 and 30 August, and produced by Denmark’s Zentropa Real, Belgium’s Wajnbrosse Productions, Switzerland’s Almaz Film Production and France’s Pani Production.
