Fischer’s film awarded

Fremder Freund("Foreign Friend"), the debut of Elmar Fischer has won the award at the FILMZ,the full-lenght film festival in Rheiland-Pfalz. Fischer’s film, interpreted by Antonio Wannek, Navid Akhavan, and Mina Tander, had already won success at numerous festivals and was in the lead after having won a nomination as Best Film in German award circles for 2003. The film deals with the thorny issue of relations betweent he western and Islamic worlds following 9/11, opening with the friendship between a German boy and an Arab. Produced by Naked Eye Filmproduction in Munich and by Shot by shot in Berlino, Fremder Freund will be in German cinemas from December 11th.
The second award of the festival, which this year recorded a 20% increase in spectators, went to the surreal comedy entitled Science Fiction by Franz Müller. The film had already been presented in the "Perspektive Deutsches Kino" section of the Berlinale 2003.
