The European coproduction Call of the Toad (Unkenrufe, Wróz by kumaka) by Robert Glinski will be sold, at the upcoming Cannes Film Market, by the German company Telepool. This film by the Polish director known for Hi, Teresa (2002) was adapted from a novel by the Nobel prize author Gunter Grass ; it recounts the love story of Alexandre, a history of art specialist who goes back to Gdansk, where he was born, and meets Aleksandra, a restorer from Vilnius, Lithuania. Both characters, interpreted by Matthias Habich (Nowhere in Africa) and Krystyna Janda (Mephisto), are widowers. They decide to work together and create an association to reconcile the German city of Gdansk and the Polish citizens of Vilnius by allowing them to be buried together in a common cemetery. Although their project is successful, their idealistic aspirations are seriously altered by the capitalist society around them. The script was co-written by the director, Klaus Richter, Pawel Huelle, Cezary Harasimowicz, and Bhasker Patel.
