Atalanta's acquisitions

At the Cannes Film Market, the distribution company Atalanta Filmes bought six European productions which will be released soon, starting next Autumn, everywhere in Portugal, especially in the theatres who belong to the Medeia Filmes network.

Amongst the films bought on the Croisette, Atalanta got the Golden Palm-winner The Child [+see also:

(Directors’ Fortnight), picked quite a few features in Cannes, all sections included, for besides the above-mentioned, the company also got Last Days by Gus Van Sant, Election by Johnnie To, Sangre by Amat Escaldante, Three Times by Hou Hsiao-Hsien, and the prize-winning film Me and You and Everyone We Know by Miranda July. Atalanta also laid hands on the next projects of David Lynch, Todd Haynes, and Takeshi Kitano.

Since its creation in 1989, Atalanta Filmes has been specialised in distributing art house films, allowing certain European directors who would not otherwise get a chance to have their works on national release in Portugal. The Medeia Filmes network, also created in 1989, is now in charge of 25 theatres, that is, no less than 80 screens. This network includes the only digital screen in Portugal (Avaláxia multiplex, Lisbon).
